Network Density#

A measurement of the proportion of public transport routes on roads compared to overall road availability.

Network density signifies the accessibility and availability of public transport in an urban terrain.

Metrics:

  • Number of transit lines per square kilometre of urban land.

  • Total length of roads occupied by transit lines per length of roads.

An assessment metric of whether a public transport network is serving the capacity of passengers proportionate to what it was infrastructurally designed for .

It reveals insight into whether “returns” on investment (in passengers) break even the cost incurred in building the public transport infrastructure.
